The Copernican Revolution: Planetary Astronomy in the Development of Western Thought
Kuhn studied the development of the heliocentric theory of the solar system during the Renaissance. Heliocentrism is the cosmological model in which the Sun lies near a central point while the planets revolve around it. The Copernican Revolution was a shift in the field of astronomy from a geocentric understanding of the universe, centered around Earth, to a heliocentric understanding, centered around the Sun, by Nicolaus Copernicus.

The Structure of Scientific Revolutions
He identified paradigm shifts. A change in the basic concepts and experimental practices in science. Paradigm is a ‘puzzle’ for scientists to solve. A crisis occurs when the paradigm is a troubling puzzle known as ‘anomalies’. A crisis is followed by a scientific revolution if the existing paradigm is outdated by a rival. He claimed that science guided by one paradigm would be ‘incommensurable’ with science developed under a different paradigm.
