    Kuhn's Harvard Education

    Thomas Kuhn earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in physics. In 1949 he achieved his Ph. D in the history of science. It was during his studies for his Doctorates that the transition from being a physicist to a philosopher of science began to take shape.

  • The Lowell Lectures

    During these lectures Kuhn began discussing concepts that were the basis of Structure. He explored opposing concepts to a traditional stance of science being a span of slowly cumulative knowledge and offered an alternative historical approach to Scientific Methodology. He also analyzed the use of logic, language, and meaning in Science.

    The Publishing of "Structure"
    The release of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions was published and began to cause waves in the scientific community. It discussed paradigms and how are subject to change through a series of occurrences broken down into four phases.These phases include normal science, model crisis, model revolution, and paradigm shift.

    In response to criticism of structure, and to provide clarification on multiple components, Kuhn released postscripts. It addresses a more thorough definition of paradigm and responds to criticism of him being too relativistic and confusing descriptive and normative analysis.
