9/11 is when terrorists attacked Twin Towers in New York by crashing planes into the sides of the towers. It shocked everybody there and killed many people including an estimate of 200 firemen and all the people on the planes that crashed into the buildings which was 157 people. Also 78 officers went missing. -
2002 Winter Olympics
The 2002 Winter Olympics was held in Salt Lake City Utah, and was the fifth state in the U.S to host the Winter Olympics. From February 8 to February 24, 2,399 athletes participated in 78 events. 18 countries won gold metals, setting a new record. -

US and British forces launch attack Iraq without the UN's permission, starting the war. The US and British started to get bombed by Iraq, and then Saddam was captured by the US. The war resulted in around 110,600 deaths. -
Earthquake in Northern Morocco
An 6.5 earthquake hit Northern Morocco killing over 500 people. Another 300 were injured, and 80 of them were seriously injured. Alot of the deaths happened around the city of Al Hoceima, which has a population of several hundred thousand. -
Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina, a category 5 hurricane, formed ofer the Bahamas and went through Florida as a category one hurricane. It turned into a category 5 hurricane over the Gulf, and then hit southern Lousiana as a category 3 hurricane. It caused the most deaths in New Orleans, where the levees flooded, drounding many people. -

The 2006 FIFA World Cup Championship started on June 9 and went to July 9. There were 64 matches overall. Italy beat France in the finals. -

An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0 hit Lima, Peru killing at least 437 people. Another 1,350 were injured. Alot of the daths happened in Ica. More than 16,500 people were affected by the earthquake. Also a wall of a prison collapsed and more than 680 prisoners escaped. -

The Pheonix spacecraft was the first spacecraft to land on the polar regions of Mars. It gathered datd that suggessts that there is water on Mars. -

H1N1, or swine flu, is a mix of swine, bird, and human flu. mexico city was closed to try to stop the spread of the virus. The CDC and the WHO stopped counting cases and said it was a pandemic. It is spread by peoples breath. On August 10, 2009, the pandemic came to an end. -

An earthquake with amagnitude of 7.0 hit Haiti on January 13, 2010,destroying everything. It hit less than 10 miles away from Port-au- Prince, Haiti. It was followed by 12 aftershocks with magnitudes greater than 5.0. -

President Barak Obama announces that Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al- Qaida, was killed in a military assult. Osama Bin Laden was the worlds most wanted terrorist. He was killed in Pakistan.
