Due to Eugene Talmadge death 3 men had claimed office . These men were Ellis Arnall, Melvin E. Thompson, t, and Herman Talmadge . In order to be in office these men's had to have a lieutenant (when the govern is absent from it position and there a person taking it's place for awhile ) meaning "second-in-command" being there to take his place .
-
Thompson, was the first elected as lieutenant governor he was governor from 1947-1948.Who was a member of the anti-Talmadge faction of the Democratic Party, Herman Talmadge (Talmadge son ) didn't agree and they fought for Governor .
-
During election people secretly wrote in Herman Talmadge for
governor but after Thompson got elected , during the general assembly Herman got elected as governor -
Ellis Arnall, did not quit he actually didn't agree the way the lieutenant governor were selected he felt like the General Assembly did not have the authority to elect a governor. Herman didn't like the way Ellis thought of it since he was governor he decide to get rid of Ellis by getting troops to escort him out of state Capitol . He refused give up .

at the end Arnall gave up and supported Thompson soon the Georgia Supreme Court finally choose who would be governor which was Thompson and Talmadge got kick out of office
