    When Henry Clay of Kentucky made an agreement to admit that california would be a free state. This allowed the southwestern states to have no restriction on slavery.

    When Stephen A. Douglas created two new territories and abolished the MO. Comprimise leaving it u to the settlers to vote on if they should have slavery.

    When an enslaved man went up north to Wisconsin with his owner and returned to Missouri to win his freedon back in court. Many people fought for his freedom in the north which made controversy in the south
  • Election of 1860

    Abraham Lincoln wins with just 40% votes. Most were in the north. Southerners feared that he would abolish slavery. So, the south secceds from the union.
