The San Diego Zoo has welcomed 15 Siamang babies, and still are in the present day. The zoo highlights the Siamang adult male Unkie, and his life-long mate Eloise, and have been together since 1987.

"In 2003, a multilevel, naturalistic exhibit to house our siamangs and orangutans together was opened, as both species are native to the tropical rain forests of Sumatra." (http://animals.sandiegozoo.org/animals/siamang) Fortunately the Siamangs and Orangutans got along well, and the San Diego Zoo managed to build a spacey home for two endangered species.

The specie is protected with local laws, as well as international laws, given and supported by the CITES Appendix I.
