The Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was the compromise for which states would be free or slave states. They came up with a plan that if you come from below the 36˚30˚ line then it your state would be slave state but if it was above this line then it would be free. -
Mexican-American War
A war that lasted two years between the United States and Mexico, because of Texas breaking away from Mexico and becoming part of American and also the border line between Texas and Mexico. -
The Compromise of 1850
Laws were passed that the line stopped before it hit California and that California would be a free state. -
Kansas/ Nebraska Act
A law was passed that If the south goes along with northern route the Missouri compromise line will be erased. Each of the states will vote for themselves. -
Bleeding Kansas 1854-1861
This was when series of fights broke out as people started to vote for slave or free states. -
Sumner and Brooks incident
Representative Preston Brooks attacked Senator Charles Sumner with a cane in because Sumner said something that offended him two days earlier. -
Battle of Fort Sumter
This was a fort in South Carolina, which gaurded Charleston Harbor. Its capture by Confederate forces was the first action of beginning of the Civil War. This was where the first shots of the civil war began.
