  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    It was the first direct tax on the colonists. It was a tax on printed material including newspapers, magazines,legal documents and many more. This tax enraged the colonists and subsequently sparked the American Revolution.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    There was a confrontation between British soldiers and a group of colonists. The soldiers open fire on the colonists, the soldiers were arrested the next day. The effects of the incident caused serious anti-British sentiment.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    70 men went on three British ships in the Boston harbor and threw boxes of tea into the ocean. This was a political protest on the taxation of tea.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    It required the colonists to provide housing and supplies for the British troops. This was used to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Port Act

    Boston Port Act
    This bill was apart of the passage of intolerable acts. This was designed to punish the people of Boston for the Boston tea party. The port of Boston was to be closed untill the tea was payed for.
  • Convocation of the First Continental Congress

    Convocation of the First Continental Congress
    Delegates from 12 colonies met at the First Continental Congress to talk about the Intolerable Acts. They decided to boycott British goods and ban the export of American good to Britain.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord
    This was the first major battles in the revolutionary war. Local men gathered at Lexington to intercept the British troops. The colonist fled the scene and British went to Concord. The Americans waited on the outskirts and built up there forces when back and defeated the British.

    The Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, this formally stated the 13 colonies as independent.

    The Second Battle of Saratoga
    The British were surrounded by the very large Continental Army. This lead to the Brithish commander John Burgoyne to accpeect defeat ten days later.
  • Surrender of Yorktown

    Surrender of Yorktown
    The land and sea campaigns of the American and French was successful. The British were stuck on the Yorktown peninsula. The British commander realized the truth and tried to escape. But it failed, On October 19 1781, Lord Cornwallis accpted the terms of surrender and the war was alomost over.
  • The Signature of the Treaty of Paris

    The Signature of the Treaty of Paris
    The American Revolution ended with the Treaty of Paris which was signed on September 3, 1783. The British accepted defeat and recognized the independent United States of America.
