Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press in 1436 to replace xylography. Instead of woodblocking and hand writing information, he came up with interchangeable blocks that could be moved into different places and needs to be pressed down once. By doing this, he made book printing revolutionary faster and caused the amount of information available to soar exponentially.

Leonardo da Vinci is a painter, sculptor, inventor, you-name-it-or. He is most famous for the "Mona Lisa", which uses the technique sformata. This painting has been stolen, spat at, got rocks thrown at it, but now it is safely at the Louvre in Paris behind bulletproof glass. He also famously tried a flying machine which didn't work, of course until 400 years later when the Orville brothers came up with the first airplane.

Albrecht Durer is a famous engraver who is famous for making the picture "Adam and Eve", showing the first picture of the ideal human body composition.

Raphael was a High Renaissance artist known for the Stanza della Segnatura. This was his thoughts on humanism that included theology, poetry, philosophy, and law.

Machiavelli was a politician known for his relationship with the Medici family and corrupt government. This is due to a pamphlet he wrote called "The Prince". This is widely believed to have caused the Medici family to be kicked out of Florence and have a republic rule it.

Sir Thomas More was a philosopher and a monk famous for making "Utopia". The book focuses on what life should be in an ideal society, or Utopia. He was also known to go into poverty on purpose to fulfill his life as a very religious person.

Baldassare Castiglione is known for making the "Book of the Courtier" which was his picture of the proper society. It quickly became the ideal book for etiquette. One of his examples is "It is better to pass in silence that which cannot be recalled without pain"

William Shakespeare is arguably the most famous actor and writer in history. He is known for his tragedies "Romeo and Juliet" and "Macbeth". Born on April 23, he has lived a life of fame and fortune with his wife Anne Hathaway (not the actress).

The end of the Renaissance was caused by the Church losing power and people started to think for themselves. The next era in modern history is the Protestant Reformation, which was a schism between the Roman Catholic church and people known as Prostestants.
