The early life of Noam Chomsky
Noam Chomsky was born on December 7th, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Noam attended an experimental elementary school where students were encouraged to develop their own interests and talents through self directed learning (Britannica). It could be argued that this early childhood developmental style of learning, set the stage for the world renowned philosopher we are familiar with today. -
University of Pennsylvania
At age 16, Noam began schooling at the University of Pennsylvania, this is where he began his studies of language, philosophy and mathematics. While at the University of Pennsylvania, he wrote his master’s thesis titled, “The Morphophonemics of Modern Hebrew” this is the beginning of Noam’s workings on language. -

The Logical Structure of Linguistic Theory
In 1955, Noam completed his first major linguistic work titled, “The Logical Structure of Linguistic Theory” which was later published in 1975. After submitting one chapter from this work as a doctoral dissertation, he received a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania (Britannica). In this work, Noam explains his theory of how there are underlying grammatical rules common to all developing humans and what mechanism the brain uses to develop language in children. -
Noam Chomsky’s start in political ideology
Outside of the study of language, Noam has also been been very outspoken on his political views, which seem to have surfaced starting with the Vietnam war. In his political essay, “The Responsibility of Intellectuals” Noam theorizes that intellectuals in positions of power will fail to tell the truth or have deliberately lied to the public, to conceal the the aims and consequences of the U.S.’s involvement in the Vietnam war (Britannica). -
Recent work of Noam Chomsky
Currently, Noam Chomsky is still alive and very active in authoring his political ideology for the world to read. Most recently, Noam was a part of a book titled Illegitimate Authority, with C. J. Polychromiou which is available for pre-order to be released at the beginning of May. In this work, Noam examines the current social issues that America is facing today, in 2023.
