  • Roosevelt Elected

    He was elected for his optimism and progressive ideas. He was successful in a later relection, so he could be considered very successful.
  • Beginning of the Hundred Days

    This was a time period where Congress passed at least 15 new bills proposed by the new president and his cabinet. Later came to be known as "The New Deal". The New Deal was relatively successful in helping end the Great Depression.
  • Roosevelt signs the Emergency Baking Relief Act

    The Emergency Banking Relief Act was created to end the banking crisis that followed FDR's election by holding banks to new standards and the government insuring some of the peoples' investments. It was successful in ending the banking crisis.
  • First Fireside Chat

    President Franklin Roosevelt's first address to the nation via radio, explaing everything he planned and was doing as president. These "chats" that the President had with the people were very popular.
  • The Civilian Conservation Corps is created

    The most highly praised New Deal work relief program.This orginization was created to give jobs to Americans who were unable to find work. It was very successful, providing as many as 3 million young Americans with much-needed work.
  • The Agricultural Adjustment Act is signed

    The AAA was an Act created with the intention of ending the problem of the low prices of all produce. The government paid farmers not to grow certain crops or raise certain livestock. It was successful in the time it operated, raising the prices, but it did not benefit everyone. And it was later declared unconstitutional by Congress and shut down.
  • The Securities Act

    The Securities Act was created to regulate the stock market and prevent fraud. This act was successful in making the stock market much more credible.
  • End of the Hundred Days

    The end of the first movement of progressive acts from President Roosevelt. Was accepted with a great amount of enthusiasim at the time.
  • The creation of the Share Our Wealth Society

    This society, founded by Huey Long, Roosevelts' fiercest competitor, was made to promote a massive redistribution of wealth. It was somewhat successful, gaining many followers, although Roosevelt won the Presidency.
  • The creation of the American Liberty League

    The ALL's purpose was to organize opposition the New Deal and "teach the neccessity of respect for the rights of person and property." It was somewhat effective, gaining many sympathizers, but did not really accomplish anything.
  • Creation of the Works Progress Administration (Second New Deal)

    The largest public works program of the New Deal. It offered many Americans jobs working for the federal government and supported the arts. It was considered to be very successful.
  • Schecter Poutry Company vs. the United States

    The Supreme Court unanimously voted down the authority of the National Recovery Administration. It was somewhat effective, stopping the particular organiztion and its rules fully, but the same things were later implemented in other organizations.
  • National Labor Relations Act

    The National Relations Act was created to gain the everyday worker's vote for Roosevelt and help the economy. It guaranteed workers the right to organize unions and bargain collectively. It was very effective, although not everyone like it, and gave unions new confidence.
  • The Social Security Act

    This Act was created to provide financial relief to Americans over the age of 65 and to those Americans who were unemployed through no fault of their own. It was one of the most successful Acts of the New Deal.
  • Creation of the Committee for Industrial Orginization

    The CIO set out to organize unions that included all workers. It was very successful.
