    If th revolutionary war never happened, the United States would not be what it is today. The victory of the american revolution influenced movements around the world. Most feel that there would have been no French revolution, but for the american revolution. The French revolution in turn inspired the european revolutionary movements in 1948 and even the Russian revolution. All these began with the ideals of self-determination and liberty fought for in the american revolution

    With the revolutionary war over, The new nation needed a leader. At first washington refused to become the president, but he finally agreed and the presidency of George Washington started.President Washington entered office and established the executive and judicial branches of the federal government of the United States. He served a second term but refused to run a third. Later establishing the policy of a
    maximum of two terms for a president. This eventually became a law by the 22nd Amendment.

    Aside from doubling the land mass and gaining the resources from that land, was important to the United States for a number of strategic and political reasons. It was also the beginning of the end of European colonialism in the Americas. Jefferson doubted whether he had the constitutional authority to purchase land. Nowhere in the Constitution was the Chief Executive empowered to purchase external territory. He abandoned his strict constitutionalist views for interest of national security.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise in 1820 allowed Missouri to become a slave state and Maine to become a free state. This way, the number of free and slave states in America would become equal leading to a balanced share of power in the House without any particular region benefiting at the expense of the other.While the Southern states were in favor of slavery, the Northern states vehemently opposed the idea. An expansion of slavery would have meant an increase in the territorial space and population.

    Lincoln and his party wanted to abolish slavery. His opponents
    didn't, because their plantation-based economy in the south relied on slavery for free labor. When Lincoln won, several southern states seceded, so they could continue to have slavery be legal. And, that started the Civil War. About a year into the war, the south was winning. So, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to free the slaves in all of the United States. The north went on to win the war and made slavery illegal.
  • Lincoln's Assassination

    Lincoln's Assassination
    Five days after the south surrendered, President Abraham Lincoln was shot while attending a performance of Our American Cousin at Ford's Theater with his wife and two guests (Lincoln died from his wounds). Lincoln freed the Southern slaves in 1863 following the Battle of Gettysburg. He did not free northern slave states though. Had Lincoln lived, he would have given Blacks full rights and this is what directly led to his murder.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    D-Day was a very big event during world war II. The americans were at their final resort and if they lost they might have lost the war.Success of this operation enabled Allies to build an artificial harbour for unloading more troops and supplies, and install a pipeline to carry fuel across the channel. Using these facilities about a million Allied troops had reached France by end of June, 1944. This paved way for liberation of France and invasion of Germany from the eastern side.
