Charlie, on the left, is the catalyst of the "mob mentality." Steve Brand, the man on the right (white-collared shirt), is the "voice of reason."

Young Tommy has a wild imagination and claims to understand the objectives of supposed "alien invaders." He is accused of reading "too many comic books."

Charlie is making things worse by arbitrarily accusing anyone at will. Things begin to get tense between Charlie, the voice of "no reason," and Steve, the "voice of reason."

After Charlie shoots Pete, paranoia sets in and everybody starts accusing eachother of the existing problems. It turns out that aliens landed on earth and came to the following conclusion: Turn some lights off, create havoc with mechanical devices, and humans will turn against each other.
