    Start of Augusta National
    Fruitland Nurseries is purchased as the site of the course and Dr. Alister Mackenzie began designing the course. This started the construction and Augusta National organization.
  • First Tournament

    First Tournament
    Inagural winner of the new Augusta National Invitation Tournament was Horton Smith who won a total of $1,500. This marked the start of the most famous golf tournament in the world and it was also the 1st tournament to be broadcast on radio which increased the popularity and got the name out to the public.
  • Name Changed

    Name Changed
    Co-founder Bobby Jones officially changes the name of the tournament from the Augusta National Inviation Tournament to The Masters. Jones origianlly thought it was immodest but now the tournament is more recognizable from the iconic name.
  • First Green Jacket Presentation

    First Green Jacket Presentation
    Club members of Augusta started wearing the jackets earlier but Sam Snead was the first winner of the tournament to recieve a gree jacket. Today the winner of the previous tournament helps the current winner put the jacket on. This started again a famous golf tradition.
  • First TV Broadcast

    First TV Broadcast
    CBS broadcasted only 2 and a half hours of coverage from friday through sunday and only showed holes 15-18. This was the first time America could watch the tournament or see the beauty of the course. 10 million tuned in and this publicity grew the popularity of the tournament.
  • First International Winner

    25 year old South African Gary Player becomes the first foreign player to win. He outlasted Arnold Palmer with a final round 74, he went on to win 2 more Masters. This win boosted the popularity of the tournament and golf overseas to international countries and made the game even more competitive.
  • Clifford Roberts Passed Away

    Clifford Roberts Passed Away
    At age 83 Roberts who was the co-founder of Augusta National and the chairman dies. Roberts was instrumental in running the tournament and did a lot for golf to spread its popularity.
  • Jack Nicklaus Wins his 6th Masters

    Jack Nicklaus Wins his 6th Masters
    Setting the record with his 6th and final Masters, 46 year old Jack NIcklaus becomes the oldest champion ever. This set his legacy and proved why golf can be an exciting game.
  • Tiger Woods wins his 1st Masters

    Tiger Woods wins his 1st Masters
    Woods set 20 Masters records including youngest ever to win it, age 21, largest margin of victory, 12 strokes, and the lowest tournament score, an 18 under 270. This starts his dominance and his run of winning 3 more Masters.

    3D Coverage
    The tournament was shown in 3D 2 hours daily at every hole. This made the experince even better as the viewer could see the beauty of the course in more detail and boosted te populaity as it made the Masters more exciting to watch.
