    Also she is a 5 time World Champion (1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, & 2003), and a 9 time U.S Champion. She competed at a high level for over a decade and is the most decorated figure skater in U.S history.

    Mars Polar Lander
    On January 3rd NASA launced the Mars Polar Lander.
    The Mars Polar Lander was launched to study the soil and climate of Planum Australe.
    Planum Australe is the southern polar plain on Mars.
    On December 3rd, 1999 after a decent phase was expected to be completed, the lander failed to reestablish communication with Earth.

    Space Shuttle Mission
    October 11th, the 100th Space Shuttle mission was flown.
    This Shuttle was lifted of for a 14 day mission to install the Z1 segment, the first piece of the space station truss, and a third docking port (PMA-3) for the Unity adapter. They also test the new 'SAFER' spacesuit backpack propulsion units.

    The 9-11 attacks were a series of 4 coordinated suicide attacks upon the United States in New York and Washington, D.C. 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger jets. The hijackers intentioally crashed two planes into the Twin Towers in New York City ( American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175), One plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.The fourth jet, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
