The Birth of a Legend
Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1905 in Chicago, Illinois. Walt was named after his father who was very hard-working and was not creative at all. He was more like his mother Flora who first inspired him to draw. -
Disney Findig a Talent
Walt Disney at about 10 yeras old started to expand his drawing ability. His family moved to Marceline, MIssouri to live on the farm. His Dad liked living on the farm, but he just wanted to draw. -
Disney Begins Life of Art
Walt Disney at age 11 joins the Kansas City Art Institute while living in Marceline, MIssouri. When he was away his father had to do most of the work on the farm. He joined because all he wanted to do is draw more. -
Disney Interested in the Military
Walt Disney at age 13 was interested in joining the military because his brother Roy joined. However he was too youg to join so he accepted a job to drive an ambulance for the Red Cross in France. -
First Cartoons
The Laugh-O-Grams were the first cartoons made by Walt Disney. It was created as a sequel in 1920 at the new Dsiney Brothers' Studio in Hollywood. These were a huge success for the new company. -
Disney Brothers' Studio
Right after going bankrupt in 1923 Walt and his brother Roy move to Hollywood and create Disney Brothers' Studio. He immediately began hiring people so he would start making money. -
Disney Makes First Silent
At this tme, Walt Disney created his frist silent Alice in Wonderland short. He wanted to start his life up by making tis with his brother Roy in Marceline, Missouri. -
First Sound Cartoon
The first sound cartoon made by the Disney Brothers' Studio was called Steamboat Willie. Walt's brother Roy was pushing Walt towards finishing this project because his favorite cartoons were ones with sound. -
First Color Cartoon
Walt Disney's frist color cartoon was also inspired by his brother Roy. This cartoon, Flowers and Trees, was made in 1932 in Hollywood. Walt was getting the hang of thing around the studio and just wanted to do more. -
Disneyland
After a lot of hard work Disneyland was opened to ther public. Walt and Roy were both very happy with theme park and just wanted to make everybody happy. -
Walt and Roy Fix Debt Problem
At this time in 1961, Walt and Roy finish up paying off all the extra debt. Roy really wanted to start making money and get this off their hands. -
The Release of Mary Poppins
The release of Mary Poppins was a huge vent that a lot of people were waiting for. This was one of Walt's personal favorite shows he made. The show made him a lot of money and increased his fan base. -
Improvements to Disneyland
For the firts time, Walt Disney makes his first audio-animators which makes the robotic characters come to life at Disneyland. This was a huge accomplishment in Walt's eyes because he wanted the public to feel like they were in a fantasy land. -
Disneyworld Plans
Around this time, Walt and his brother Roy wanted to make a second theme park. They decided to put this one in Orlando, Florida. The park later opened to the public. -
Dsiney's Unfortunate Death
Walter Elias Disney passed away on December 15, 1966. He was 61 years old and he died of lung cancer. The Disney company was ran by the people left after he died.
