  • Bread and Rose Strike

    Bread and Rose Strike
    In 1912 During WW1 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, lead a strike of 23,000 men, women, and children to organize the "Lawrence Texttile Mills". The name of the strike was "Bread and Roses". This was the first sucessful multi-ethnic strike. This event relates to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because they didnt get what they wanted so they went on strike till they got what they wanted.

    In 1918 were held charges of disloyalty to the United States due to the Leadership of the Industerial Workers of the world who were sentenced to federal prison. This relates to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because they did something wrong so they had to pay for it.

    In July 1st through September 1st the Railroad Labor Boards wage cut. The railroads hired strikebreakers to increse hostilities between the railroads and striking workers. On September 1st former federal judge James H Wilkerson issued a sweeping injunction against striking called "Daugherty Injunction." This relates to the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because they were not getting paid a fair amount.

    Davis-Bacon Act
    The Davis-Bacon Act provided payment of prevailing wage rates to labpors and mechanics that were employed by contractors and subcontractors for public constuction. This event relates to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because they wanted to get paid more so they went on strike and they got a raise.

    The Taft-Harley
    On June 23, Despite prestident Trumans attempt to veto the Taft-Harley Act was passed. This resulted in major changes to the Wagner Act of 1935 and discouraged workers from forming labor unions consequently states began to form " Right to Work" laws weakening job secuirity by taking away union contracts. The Taft-harley act relates to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because they had to work for cheap.
