Amir and Soraya get married in 1985 and in 1986 Baba dies due to not taking his medication. Within the next half-decade, Hassan's son (Sohrab) is born.

Mujahedeen took control of the capital, Kabul and president Nujibullah get stripped of their power. Militias in Afghanistan compete for power.

The Taliban takes over the country and inflict very harsh laws upon the people. They ban women from work and use brutal punishments like stoning to death to enforce it.

Rahim Khan calls Amir telling him to go back to Kabul and rescue Hassan's son, Sohrab. This was a way for Amir to repay Hassan for how he treated him even though Hassan had passed.

On this day Al Qaeda started a war with the United States by attacking the US world trade center buildings in New York. Taking the lives of thousands of people working in the buildings.
