    Amir, the narrator is born in the summer of 1963, to Baba and Sofia Akrami, who dies during childbirth.

    Hassan is born.
    Hassan, the childhood playmate of Amir is born a year later to Ali and Sanaubar. He is Baba's illegitmate son.

    Amir and Hassan win the kite fighting contest. As Hassan runs the defeated kite, he is confronted by Assef, Kamal and Wali who rape him. Amir in his cowardice does not help Hassan. For Afghan Boys and Men, Kite Flying is a Way of Life

    Amir turns 13 years old.
    Amir turns thirteen years of age and Baba throws him an extravagant birthday party. Hassan is forced to serve Assef who raped him, and Amir is upset because he feels terribly guilty for abandoning Hassan when he needed him the most. He recieves many gifts most of which he does not appreciate, except for a leather-bound notebook gifted to him by Rahim Khan.

    Amir wants to be rid of his guilt and of Hassan, so using Baba's philosophy of stealing being the worst crime one can commit, he frames Hassan of stealing a wad of Afghani bills and a watch. Baba does not fire them as Amir wanted, howver since Ali had recently come to know how much Amir had oppressed Hassan, chooses to leave them for his son's safety.

    As Afghanistan falls deeper into turmoil under the despotism of the Soviet Russians, Baba decides to move to America to create a new life for Amir. While being smuggled out of Afghanistan, Baba and Amir are met with tribulations.

    Despite the difficulties they were met with on their way to America, they make it to Fermont, California. They both stat fresh and lead a new life, while dealing with the pitfalls and blessings of being an immigrant in this country.

    Amir after graduating highschool, begins to sell items at a local flea market with his father. there he meets a beautiful woman named Soraya Taheri.

    Baba is diagnosed with cancer but refuses treatment for it. Amir asks that before he dies to ask General Taheri for his daughter to marry Amir, and they do get married.

    Baba dies a month after Amir's wedding. As much as Amir grieves for the loss of his father, Rahim Khan and Hassan on the other side of the world feel even worse, mourning to a greater extent.

    Rahim Khan tries to find Hassan in Hazarajat. He learns that Hassan has gotten married to a woman named Farzana and are expecting their first child, and that Ali had been killed by a land mine two years prior. He insists that they stay in Baba's house with him.

    While Rahim Khan is away, Hassan and Farzana in their effort to save Baba's house get shot by the Taliban, leaving Sohrab an orphan.

    Rahim Khan calls Amir saying that there is a way to be good again, a way to redeem himself for his wrongdoings in the past.
  • Amir finds Sohrab and has a confrontation with Assef.

    Amir finds Sohrab and has a confrontation with Assef.
    Amir is being driven through Kabul and sees how it is the ghost of a city he once knew. He finally arrives at an orphanage that tells him that a Taliban official has Sohrab. He confronts this Talib and finds that he is Assef and that he is molesting Sohrab. They get into a physical fight where Amir gets beaten to a pulp but feels as thought it is what he deserves. Sohrab shoots a brass ball into Assef's eye and He and Amir break out of the Talib's house.

    Amir wakes up in a hospital after he is severely beaten. Unfortunately, Amir cannot obtain the visas for Sohrab to go to America with him and tells Sohrab the one thing he fears the most: that he must stay at an orphanage again. But as a change of events, everything works out and Sohrab can join him, as he goes to tell Sohrab this, Amir finds him in the bathtub filled with bloody water and slit wrists.

    The World Trade Center in New York was attacked by two hijacked planes as an act of terrorism by the Taliban. This changes how Afghanis were going to be viewed forever.

    Sohrab is taught how to fly a kite.
    Sohrab has selective mutism after his suicide attempt for about a year, in which he does not interact with people or show much emotion. On New Years, Amir take Sohrab to a Kite Fighting contest and Sohrab finally smiles for the first time in a year.
