In the 12th century A.D. Inca first appeared in what is now the southeastern part of Peru. According to some origin myths, the Incas were created by Inti, the sun god. In the myth Inti sent his son, Manco Capac, to Earth through the middle of three caves.

The fourth emperor, Mayta Capac, of the Inca expanded their land. The Incas couldn’t truly become an expansive power. They could when the eighth emperor, Viracocha Inca, took control of the Incas in the early 15th century.

In about 1438, the Inca’s rival Chancas attached. Their eighth emperor, Viracocha Inca, retreated. Viracocha’ s son, Cusi Inca Yupanqui, defended Cusco.

In 1471, Topa Inca Yupanqui pushed the southern border of the empire. The border was pushed to what is now Chile. Huayna Capac embarked on successful northern campaigns.

The Spanish carried smallpox. Smallpox then wiped out a chunk of the Inca population. The deases aventerly killed Huayna Capac in 1525.

In 1532, Francisco Pizarro lured Atahualpa to meeting. Francisco Pizarro had dinner with Atahualpa. Francisco also kidnapped the emperor in november.

Atahualpa was executed. The spanish were then outnumbered by the locals. Cusco was then sacked in the late 1533.

Spanish installed a young prince, Manco Inca Yupanqui. Their plan backfired. Everything happened fast in 1536.

Inca was overwhelmed by diseases. The Inca was also overwhelmed by high weaponry of spanish invaders. In 1572 the last group of their immense empire was overtaken.

The prince and his men were forced to retreat. They went into the jungle village of Vilcabamba. The men remained the last stronghold of the empire in 1572.
