    First Marburg Outbreak
    The first recorded outbreak of the Marburg Virus occurs in Marburg, Germany. A Monkey warehouse worker becomes infected and the virus then spreads quickly killing 7 out of the 31 infected.
  • Ebola Sudan Emerges

    Ebola Sudan Emerges
    A storekeeper by the name of Mr. Yu G, goes into shock and begins bleeding from orfices on his body. He was the first known victim of Ebola Sudan, which is the deadliest of the Ebola family. The virus quickly spread from person to person until reaching a hospital in the town of Maridi where it killed many. It then goes by unnoticed and later disappears for some time.
  • Yambuku Mission Hospital

    Yambuku Mission Hospital
    A person infected with Ebola Zaire enters the mission hospital, assisted by unclean syringes, the virus spreads throughout the hospital then into 50 villages.
  • Zaire Panic

    Zaire Panic
    Nurse Mayinga, a nurse infected by Ebola Zaire in the mission hospital, travels to Kinshasa to get treatment at Mama Yemo Hospital, making the virus spread quickly throughout the city, which puts the country to go into a panic. The military is then sent into action to help stop the infection.
  • Charles Monet visits Mount Elgon

    Charles Monet visits Mount Elgon
    Charles Monet visits Mount Elgon with his friend, while there, he enters Kitum Cave, the breeding ground of Marburg and Ebola. A few days after his trip, he started showing symptoms.
  • Charles Visits Nairobi Hospital

    Charles Visits Nairobi Hospital
    Charles Monet arrives at the hospital feeling very sick, then suddenly collapses in the waiting room and bleeds profusely. He is then rushed to Shem Musoke who is then infected with the virus after treating Monet. Charles does die and Musoke survives and the infection didn't spread.
  • The Close Call

    The Close Call
    Nancy Jaax, who's a USAMRIID officer has a close call with the Ebola virus when her suit is breached and the blood enters the inner part of her suit. Full of fear, she quickly leaves biocontainment and strips out of her suit. Luckily, the blood didn't reach her suit.
  • Ebola is Airborne

    Ebola is Airborne
    Ebola was originally only transmitted through blood, but on this day, monkeys across the room from the infected monkeys were starting to get sick. When the now infected monkeys started dying, it was discovered that Ebola was now traveling through the air.
  • The Cardinal Strain

    The Cardinal Strain
    A boy by the name of Peter Cardinal suddenly dies from an unknown virus. A biohazard expert, Gene Johnson is sent to Kenya to investigate. It's after further research and investigation that Cardinal had taken a visit to Kitum Cave, the same cave that Charles Monet visited before dying of Marburg.
  • Monkey House

    Monkey House
    The Reston Monkey house starts to see death with their monkeys, USAMRIID is sent into the house to investiage and discovers a hot virus is spreading throughout the complex. They then alert the CDC and military about this "hot virus"
  • Test Results from the USAMRIID

    Test Results from the USAMRIID
    The test results from the Reston monkeys tell that the disease is most closely related to the Ebola virus. The military and CDC began to work together and lock down the monkey house.
  • Scientists Enter the Monkey House

    Scientists Enter the Monkey House
    The first scientist enter the monkey house to begin the process of killing the monkeys that were in the infected room. A few days later, a few new reports of infection from the monkey house emerge.
  • The Virus Reemerges

    The Virus Reemerges
    An employee that worked at Reston Monkey House becomes very sick all of a sudden. He is sent to the hospital and the Army returns, deciding to kill all the monkeys that were living in the house.
  • Monkey House is Cleared

    Monkey House is Cleared
    The Reston Monkey house is cleared by the Army using a device called the Sunbeam, which destroys all living viruses and sterlizes the area it is in. The virus is named Ebola Reston and it is discovered to be non-lethal to humans.
  • Author Visits Kitum Cave

    In the final section of the book, the author travels to Mount Elgon to visit Kitum Cave, which was the suspected source of the Ebola virus. He enters the cave in a space suit to explore and ends the story by saying that Ebola "will be back."
