    Gutenberg Press Invented

    Pervious to Johaness Gutenberg's invention of the printing press books were written and illustrated by hand in the West. With his in vention of the printing press in 1436 Gutenberg was able to significantly speed up the production of books, which had previously been a very lengthly process.     The Book of Kells is Completed

    The Book of Kells is a excellent early example of graphic design. This book was finished around 800 A.D. by monks in Iona or Kells. (The Book of Kells, 2015) While there are many earlier examples of graphic design this is a stunning example of combined text and image layout as this part of the Gospel of St. John shows.
