    Ufimskaya fortress
    Ufa city was originally considered as a fortress. In 1574 Ufimskaya fortress was founded by archers in the place where the rivers Ufa and Belaya joined together. The fortress was built at will of Bashkir tribes that took out Russian citizenship in 1557. The place of the fortress was called Turatau.

    Since 1708 Ufimskaya fortress had been considered to be a city, at least there is the reference to that in some resources. That time the fortress was reorganized and protective structures were broken down. In the 17th century Ufa became the administrative and economical center of Ufimskay Oblast as well as the main trade route of Siberia.

    After the Peasant revolt of 1773-1775 Ufa's status of a fortress diminished, and in 1802 Ufa became the principal town of the province, the residence of the civil Governor of Orenburg Region and the seat of provincial bodies. The Tsar's ukaz (decree) of 1865 gave Ufa the status of a city and made it the center of Ufa Region. From this point Ufa started its history as the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

    In the 19th century it was observed a gradual development of the manufacturing industry. There appeared works of metalworking and agricultural production. Economy began to develop and repairing shops of railway constructions were open. There appeared shipbuilding workshops, timber works as well as steam mills. And the reason of that growth was the development of shipping industry and construction of The Samara-Zlatoust railway (current Kuibyshevskaya).

    In 1992 Ufimskaya Guberniya was eliminated and there appeared Bashkir ASSR, the capital of which became Ufa. After that, the city began to develop quickly and became the center of manufacture, transportation, science and culture of The Volga region and The Urals.

    Recall that the two-metre height bronze sculptural composition of the "Seven Girls" fountain is created on the basis of the Bashkir folk legend. The new fountain is provided with lights and music.
