  • mission San Luis Rey was founded

    In 1798 Spanish missionary Father Junipero Serra founded Mission San Luis Rey on former Luiseno Indian land.

    In 1815 the present day church building was completed .
  • Township of San Luis Rey

    In the 1870's early pioneer families began to move into the valley.
  • Railroad consrtuction begins

    In 1882 the consruction of the railroad from Oceanside to Riverside began.
  • Bank of Oceanside was built

    In 1887 the first bank of Oceanside was built along with the South Pacific hotel.
  • First pier was built

    In 1888 the first pier was built on the end of Couts Street which is now Wisconsin.
  • First pier destroyed by storm

    In 1891 Oceanside's first pier was destroyed by a storm.
  • Second pier built

    Thd second pier in Oceanside was built in 1894 at the end of Third Street which is now Pier View Way.
  • Present day Oceanside High School established

    The present day Oceanside High School was established in 1906.
  • Navy takes over Rancho Santa Margarita

    In 1942 the United States Navy took over Rancho Santa Margarita then named Camp Joseph H. Pendleton.
  • Sixth pier opened

    The new Oceanside pier opened on September 9th, 1987.
