In the 1780s, the fur trade begins along the Upper Missouri River. Coats like the one in thi spicture AND other things were made and traded. These things were mostly used to keep warm.

Lewis and Clark spend the winter of 1804-05 at Fort Mandan. You can't see it, but on the map is fort mandan and the other forts\places they were.

North Dakota becomes the 39th state, after itss people have gone through so much together, including having the Lewis and Clark Expedition stay at Fort Mandan.
