  • The first film

    Eddweard Muybridge made a bet that a horse at full speed has all hooves off the ground. HIs friends didnt believe him so he made a 25,000 bet that he was right. They lined up several cameras so a sequence of photos could be taken. He ended up winning the bet and creating the first optical illusion of a moving picture, which is called a movie.
  • Rough Sea at Dover

    This is considered the first natural history oriented film
  • The first public exhibit

    The first exhibit of film was shown at Koster and Bia's music hall in New York. First films had no editing and had static shock.
  • Nickelodeon

    Small theaters called vaudevills fatures short dramatic skits, comedy rutines, and song and dance numbers. Peope would come on and off stages and some would even get booed. They needed something to show inbetween numbers. Soon they featured short films between the acts and vaudevills expanded into nickelodeons which were 30-40 second movies that cost a nickle. Nickelodeons were store front type theaters hat featured films and two vandeville acts.
  • The movie with a meaning

    The first movie that told a story was called "The great train robbery".The movie was directed by Edwin Prorter who was an employee of thomas Edison. The movie had 4 scenes and lasted 12 minutes, which was long compared to 30-40 second movies.
  • First animated film

    The first animated film created is Fantasmagorie. Emil Cohl created it.The fillm was created by drawing each film on paper and then shooting each film on a negative film.
  • The increase in customers

    Movies were astonishing and alot of people visted theaters. But its real break was 5 years later in 1910 nickelodeon theaters attracted 26 million people. Movies were attracting more and more people each year
  • Cartoons

    Cartoons became a indrustry of its own. Cartoons were produced for showing in movie theatres. Cartoons were getting more and more popular.
  • Progresion of films

    Films started to come with a sheet of music. Complete film scores were composed for major productions. Films were begining to become more comples
  • Goodbye silent film

    Silent film was now permenantly extinct. All movies had sound so now there was no need for live bands and live sound effects. Silent film was now reffered to as the "old medium".
