Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek discovered single celled organisms which are now known to us as unicellular organisms. A letter was sent to the Royal Society in 1673. Anthonie sent that message because he was a part of that group. They publicized the message because in it was the scientific notification of the discovery of unicellular organisms.

In the early 1850's, a scientist by the name of Robert Remak made a theory about cells coming from existing cells. Rudolf Virchow didn't believe it. However, in 1858, when Virchow realized that Remak might be right, Virchow publicized Remak's work as his own. Then Virchow discovered that all cells come from existing cells.
