  • The Beginning

    The Beginning
    The first Apple computer was made April 1st, 1976. Before this computer was created Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne spent lots of time in Steve Jobs parents garage working and brainstorming. Steve Jobs had dropped out from Reed College and Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne were his friends and now coworkers. They took the computer to the Homebrew Computer Club in California where it was intoduced to the general public. Its retail price was $666.

    Apple ll Introduced
    The Apple ll showed big improvements from the first Apple computer which had been a kit computer. This computer retailed at $1 298 and had been the first computer made for mass market. The Apple ll was equipped with a keyboard, power supply, and capable of colour graphics.

    Apple Lisa Released
    The Apple Lisa computer had been designed with buisnesses users in mind. This computer was the first to have graphical user interface. The Apple Lisa was retailed at $9 995 and this high price was the cause for its low sales. It was discontinued in April 1985.

    1984 Superbowl CommercialOne of Apple's first big adversitments was for the 1984 Super Bowl. It caught peoples attention and played a role in achieving Apples popularity we know today. The advertisments underlying message was non-conformity and was directed by Ridley Scott.

    Steve Jobs showed the Macintosh computer to Apples shareholders. The computer was the first of its kind for it had folders and icons on the desktop making it user friendly. In addition the Macintosh computer was sold for an affordable price of $2 495 making it appealing to the general public.

    Steve Jobs had recruited John Scully, the head of Pepsi, to be Apples chief executive. Steve Jobs at this time was beginning to become less focused on the buisness aspects of the corporation he had created and more focused on creating. He became overly demanding of the employees at Apple and careless. John Scully and the board voted Steve Jobs out the spring of 1985.

    After Steve Jobs was let go from Apple he became distressed. He spent the summer of 1985 trying to figure out what he was going to do. From starting Apple in his parents garage to running a corrporation to loosing it all Steve Jobs was in a mid life crisis. He felt betrayed and lost.

    Starting Over
    After a summer of pondering what Steve Jobs would do, he finally realized how much he loved what he did. As long as he was creating and doing something he loved it didn't matter where it was. Steve Jobs contacted a former colleague and they created a new computer company which they called "NeXt" and they also made Pixar.

    Macintosh Portable and Apple Powerbook 100
    The Macintosh Portable was Apple's first protable computer. The retail price was $6 500. People had been excited about this new Apple product but due to it's high price the sales had been low. On October 21st 1991 the Apple Powerbook 100 was released. It was a new and imrpoved Macintosh protable and recieved better sales for the retail price had been $2 300. Considerably lower than the Macintosh Portable's.

    The Macintosh TV was Apple's first television. The device was actually the Mac Performa 900 that was capable of switching to act as TV set. Apple manufactured 10 000 Macintosh TVs before discontinuing them in February 1994. The retail price was $2 097.

    Apple Takes Steve Jobs Back
    While Steve Jobs and his former colleague were creating NeXt and Pixar, Apple was struggling. The Windows 95 had been released and had stolen the spotlight from Apple. In August of 1997 Steve Jobs was hired at Apple bringing NeXt with him.

    A new iMac was released in the year of 1998 and became the best selling personal computer in America. The iMac was a single unit with a teal blue back on it. A year later Steve Jobs thought Apple should released the same computer only with a larger variety of colours. Apples quarterly earnings were three times larger in comparison to what they had been a year before.

    iBook G3
    The iBook G3 or "Clamshell" targeted schools and other educational areas. It was a laptop and it's appearance took after the iMac from 1998 for it had been released in an array of different colours as well. The iBook was $1 599 and at the time more affordable then the Powerbook. This was the beginning for the Macbook and Macbook Pro we know today.

    While Steve Jobs had been creating NeXt he had learned some important things. One of the things he leaned was applied to his work at Apple and this resulted in the creation of Mac OS X. The computer was asthetically pleasing, crash proof, and was the beginning stages (design wise) for the iMac we know today.

    The first iPod was released in 2001 and was one of a kind. At this time people were using mp3 players and other devices to play their music. None could compare to the small, sleek, and large capacity of this 5GB music device. The iPods could only be used by people who already owned iMacs. The iPod costed $399.

    Apple released a new iPod with 10GB of stoage on it and sold the improved device for $499.
  • Changing the iPod

    In July 2002 Apply began to change the exterior of the iPod as well making a mechanical scroll wheel. This iPod had 20GB of storage on it and retailed at $499. The 5GB iPods price was dropped to $299 and the 10GB iPod's price was dropped to $399. Now there are 7 generations of the iPod nano, 4 generations of the iPod shuffle, and 6 generations of the iPod touch

The iPad is a tablet with a touch screen originally 9.7 inches wide. The iPad could connect to wifi and hold music, videos, etc. Similar to the iPhone and iPod touch only on a larger scale.
