  • Franklin Roosevelt is Elected President (1st Time)

    In 1920 FDR was elected, running against vice president Herbert Hoover- by the end of his first term, there were at LEAST 13,000,000 US citizens that had been unemployed
  • J.Edgar Hoover Becomes Head of the FBI

    On May 10, 1924, President Calvin Coolidge appointed Hoover as the fifth Director of the Bureau of Investigation, partly in response to allegations that the prior director, William J. Burns, was involved in the Teapot Dome scandal.
  • Mein Kampf is Published

    Mein Kampf was originally written by Adolf Hitler when he was in jail for trying to overthrow the government with his Nazi Party. The first version of Mein Kampf was released in 1925 and the sequel to Mein Kampf was released in 1926.
  • Stock Market Crash Begins Great Depression

    At the beginning of the Stock Market crash- it happened quickly and drastically. Within the very first day of the stock market crash, known as "black thursday" in which the market opened 11% lower than the day previous
  • Adolf Hitler Become Chancellor of Germany

    On January 30, 1933, President Paul von Hindenburg names Adolf Hitler, leader or führer of the National Socialist German Workers Party, as chancellor of Germany.
  • CCC is created

    The Civilian Conservation Corps was a work relief program that gave millions of young men employment on environmental projects during the Great Depression.
  • The Dust Bowl Begins

    The Dust Bowl began in 1934 and was the series of numerous large dust and dirt storms- polluting the air, and as well as killing farmers crops and livestock
  • WPA is Created

    President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the WPA with an executive order on May 6, 1935. It was part of his New Deal plan to lift the country out of the Great Depression by reforming the financial system and restoring the economy to pre-Depression levels The WPA shut down in June of 1943.
  • J.J. Braddock Wins Heavyweight Boxing Title

    Madison Square Garden Bowl in late 1935, Braddock won the Heavyweight Championship of the World as the 10-to-1 underdog in what was called "the greatest fistic upset since the defeat of John L. Sullivan by Jim Corbett".
  • Olympic Games in Berlin

    The Olympic games in which were held by Berlin was the 10th consecutive Olymic games, Jesse Owens went to Berlin with the rest of the United States' Olympic medalists' to compete in the 1936 Olympics. Jesse Owens single handedly won three gold medals against the German Olympic team- which made Hitler angry, and ended in great debate about whether or not the Olympics should be boycotted via the Nazi parties racist policies
  • Kristallnacht

    Kristallnacht also known as Night of the Shattered glass, or Crystal night. Kristallnacht was known for vile Nazi anti-jew protests, leaving numersous jewish companies in ruin- Germans having smashed in their windows, or even worse- committing arson on said jewish buisnesses.
  • Grapes of Wrath is Published

    Grapes of Wrath was published on April 14th 1939.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Originally- Hitler and the nazi party had signed an agreement with Stalin and his communist party. The agreement is that they would not go to war with each other, and if anything- would work together. This however was just a small part in Hitlers major role in the invasion of Poland. After the agreement was signed between Hitler and Stalin, the two countries actually worked together in order to invade Poland and then split the land.
  • Wizard of Oz Premiers in Movie Theaters

    On August 25, 1939, The Wizard of Oz, which will become one of the best-loved movies in history, opens in theaters around the United States. Based on the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
  • The Four Freedoms Speech

    In 1941 president Roosevelt gave an articulate speech consisting of the four freedoms every American should have. Consisting of; freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from fear and want. He also said, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
