What is the gift card act?
The gift card act was passed in 2006. This act makes it so most gift card “can’t expire in less than 2 years from their issue date”(https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Individuals-and-Families/Consumers/Laws-Protecting-Consumers#Gift_Card_Act). It also states that “gift cards with no expiration dates are valid until redeemed or replaced”.(https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Individuals-and-Families/Consumers/Laws-Protecting-Consumers#Gift_Card_Act) -
How does it prevent fraud? Why did I choose this act?
The gift card act prevents fraud by making it so already expired gift cards can’t be sold to consumers. This act saves me from fraud because I purchase and use gift cards often, and if this act did not exist, I could be scammed and purchase an expired card.
