Virginia sent a young militia officer, George Washington, to build a fort. This fort was located along the Ohio River Valley. When he realized that the French had already built a fort, he quickly named it Fort Necessity. When the French realized that he had named the fort, they forced Washington to surrender.

The Albany Plan of Union was Ben Franklin's idea. This idea was for New England, New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania to unite. This was very important because it was the first idea for the countries to unite together. Ben Franklin got this idea from the Iroquois.
