    The Mechanical Clock
    Late 1200’s. The mechanical clock was a huge advancement from the previous water clock. The mechanical clocks cut the inaccuracy of the water clock, 15 minutes, in half. The verge, vertical rod that the foliot sits on, nudges the foliot back and forth. This movement caused the mechanical clock to move.

    Cuckoo Clock
    The first Cuckoo Clock was invented in 1730. It was the first clock to be made entirely of wood. They were the sign of a greatly skilled craftsman. The cuckoo clock is different from the mechanical clock, because it was made entirely of wood. This shows that the clocks are now not only used for time keeping, but also for decorations, because of the intricate designs.

  • The Candle Clock

    The Candle Clock
    The candle clock was invented in the mid 1800's. It was used as an alarm clock. You used the candle clock by putting a nail into the wax and when the candle melted down to the nail, it would fall onto the metal plate underneath, making a sound.

    The first radio alarm clock was invented in the early 1950’s. This was a big change for the clock. The previous clocks had been only able to tell the time, while the radio alarm clock can both tell time and the news.

    The Wristwatch
    The wristwatch was important because it made telling time easy and mobile. Also, compared to the previous watches, the wristwatch was much smaller. The size of the watch was very important because with the watch being so small, people could take their watch wherever they went. This advancement in technology caused all other clocks to also become smaller. This was important because with the abiity to alter the size of the clock, it became more efficient.

    The Digital Clock
    The digital watch was important because it enabled people to tell time in a different and easier way. Instead of having hands and a face, the digital clock has numbers.
