The Evolution of The Bike

    The Draisienne Bike was one of the first bikes to be made. It was invented by Barn Karl von Drais in Germany. It came with 2 wheels and the frame set. The person who own's this bike would have to propel it and glide with it.
  • The Velocipede Bike

    The Velocipede bike was invented in the year of 1860 which was an upgrade of the Draisienne bike. The bike featured handles and a pair of pedals for the person to pedal. It was also given a nick name which was "Boneshaker", because it shaked on cobblestone rodes back then.
  • The High Wheel Bike

    The High Wheel bike was invented 1870s. The bike had 2 wheels and allowed the rider to be comfortable and travel farther. The front wheel would be extremely higher than the back wheel giving it its name.

    the Safety Bike was made in 1885 by John Kemp Starley. The bike was the first ever to have a metal chain to propel the petals. the two wheels were the same size and the frame was squared shaped.

    The Pneumatic tires was not a bike but an essential piece for bikes like ours today. These tires were air filled and were put on newer bikes. The tire was made in 1888 by John Boyd Dunlop.

The shock absorber would absorb the shock when the bike lands or goes on rough terrain. Through out time the mountain bike was changed but kept the basics of a mountain bike.

Most companies focused on weight of the bikes and aero dynamics. These lead to todays bikes that can weigh 15lb or 10lb.
