    This image is from January 1926 and is the first ever design of the Little Black Dress by Coco Chanel but was originally named the Ford dress. The name came from the instant success and widely availability of the dress. This dress represented the introduction of the idea of this simplistic dress that could be worn to many occasions and fit every woman. It showed how the fashion was evolving to allow anyone to afford chic clothes.

    The dress in the picture is Christian Dior first attempt at the famous Little Black dress style. This dress was post World War 2 era and dresses had become shorter, defined waistlines were installed and large billowing skirts were introduced. This dress style represented how women were know being perceived as romantic and feminine in contrast to the first design which was masculine and not feminine.

The work of Givenchy was inspired by the original Coco Chanel concept of the “Little Black Dress”. His take on the dress as a sheath dress with minimalist cuts showed how society had adapted to much simpler and chic ideals of a dress apart from the padded shoulders and large skirts from before. This dress represented a blank canvas that could be styles in different ways but still affordable.

This dress represented a change in the royal culture because royals were not allowed to wear black unless in mourning. This dress showed how style had evolved to draw attention to the women’s figure and assets. It showed society was becoming more open to women showing skin.

This video shows how society has become more versatile in their wardrobe and that this dress is staple in versatile clothing. This video represents how society has adapted to culture changes.
