Pharmacist John S. Pemberton from Atlanta created the original syrup at his chemical company. It consisted of cocaine and caffeine. He brought it to the pharmacy and added soda water to the syrup. People who tried it claimed it was special. Pemberton started to sell it to local soda fountains.
