English lost most of these inflections over time but we still have a few E.G. Adding 's' for plurals, or 's' to show ownership (the boy's hat), Also irregular plurals such as 'children' and 'oxen'. In modern English these endings have been replaced by prepositions such as 'to' and 'in'. Verb prefixes and suffixes to denote tense (past and present), person (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and number (singular or plural) also originate in Anglo Saxons, the 'ing' and 'ed' endings.
