  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 is signed forbidding settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. This area is to be set aside and governed as Indian territory.
  • Grenville Acts

    Grenville Acts pass parliament. These include a number of acts aimed at raising revenue to pay for the French and Indian War debts along with the cost of administering the new territories granted at the end of the war. The most objectionable part was the Sugar Act, known in England as the American Revenue Act. It increased duties on items ranging from sugar to coffee to textiles.
  • The Currency Act

    The Currency Act passes Parliament, prohibiting the colonies from issuing legal tender paper money.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act passes parliament. It is the first direct tax on the colonies. The purpose of the tax is to help pay for the British military stationed in America. This act is met with greater resistance and the cry against taxation without representation increases.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act goes into effect in the colonies which requires residents to provide housing for British troops stationed in America.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act goes into effect and all business is basically stopped as colonists refuse to use the stamps.
  • Benjamin Franklin testifies

    Benjamin Franklin testifies before Parliament about the Stamp Act and warns that if the military is used to enforce it, this could lead to open rebellion.
  • The Stamp Act Repealed

    The Stamp Act is canceled, but the Declaratory Act passes and allows the British Government make their own laws
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts pass parliament so that there are external taxes on things like paper, glass, and tea.
  • Liberty Seized

    John Hancock’s ship Liberty is seized at boston. Custom officials are threatened with violence and escape. They send out help from British troops.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston massacre occurs killing 5 colonists and injuring 6. This is used against the British military.
  • Virginia Abandons

    Virginia finally abandons the non importation act after the repeal of the Townshend Acts.
  • The Tea Act

    The tea act goes into place making the East India Tea company have the cheapest tea.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party occurred after months of hatred for the Tea Act. They dressed as Indians and went onto the boat and dumped 342 casks of tea in the water.
  • The Coercive Acts

    The Coercive Acts pass parliament. One of them the Boston Port Bill which makes it so that there is no shipping other than military supplies and other approved cargo until the Boston Tea Party is paid for.
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress takes a Declaration and tries to find a solution for all of the objectionable British acts.
  • British Arsenal Attacked

    Massachusetts militiamen attack the British arsenal after being warned that they would station troops at Fort William and Mary in Portsmouth.
  • Parliament Accepts

    Parliament accepts an intended plan to remove some taxes and other problems brought from the colonists.
  • Patrick Henry Speech

    Patrick Henry gives a speech saying “Give me liberty or give me death,” at the Virginia Convention.
  • New England Restraining Act

    The crown approves the New England Restraining Act that doesn’t allow trade with other countries other than England and doesn’t allow people to fish in the North Atlantic.
  • General Gage

    General/Governor Gage in Massachusetts is allowed to use any necessary force to apply any British Acts and stop buildup of colonial militia.
  • The Beginning

    Considered by lots of people to be the beginning of the actual American Revolution, the Battles of Lexington and Concord begin with the British heading to destroy a colonial arms depot in Concord Massachusetts.
