    Said that colonists could not settle west of the Appalachian Mtns., Britain wanted this mand to remain in the hands of its Native American allies to prevent another revolt like the Pontiacs Rebellion.

    The Treaty of Paris (The French and Indian war)
    The Americans fought with Britain against the French and Indians in the French and Indian war. This war was also known as the Seven Years war.

    This law placed a tax on sugar, molasses, and other products shipped to the colonies.

    This law required all legal and commercial documents to carry an official stamp showing that a tax had been paid.

    The Boston Massacre
    A group of youths and dockworkers, including Crispus Attucks, started trading insults in front of the customs house. A fight broke out and the British began firing. Attucks and four laborers were killed.

    Gave British control over American tea trade. Could only be sold by British merchants on British ships. Colonists who didn't pay taxes on smuggled tea now had to pay taxes on British tea.

    A group of men disquised as Native Americans, boarded three tea ships docked in Boston harbor. That night they destroyed 342 chests of tea by throwing them overboard. Then British cuases rebellion in the 13 colonies.

    The Coercive (Intolerable) Acts
    closed the port of boston until colonists paid for the destroyed tea, banned committee of correspondence, allowed Britain to house troops wherever neccecary, and let crimes be trialed in Britain.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    Delegates vote to ban all trade with Britain until the Intolorable acts were repealed. They also had each colony start training troups. Played a key role in starting Americas independent government.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    Were the first battles of the Revolutionary war. Nearly 4,000 militia men and minutemen arrived to fight. There was only 1,700 British soldiers so the British were outnumbered. The Britishes failed plan was to capture 2 people and destroy the patriots ammunition and weapons.

    General Washington was put in charge of the continental army. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

     Battle of Bunker Hill
    militiamen seized bunker hill and breeds hill behind charlestown. British won with around 1,000 deaths compared to the malitia with 400 deaths.

    Common Sense by Thomas Paine
    challenged the athority of British government and the royal Monarchy. The plain language that Paine used spoke to the people of America and was the first work to openly ask for independence from great Britain.

    was written because the colonies wanted independency from great Britain and themselves. All of the colonists were seeking for independence and this gave them the option.

    Washington would of surrendered his whole army if he didn't retreat to Manhattan. British won the battle with 400 casualties while Americans lost 1,000 people.

    Washington led a suprise attack on the city of Trenton. He forced the Hessian soldiers to retreat. They had no choice to surrender to Washington.
  • Battles of Saratoga

    Battles of Saratoga
    Was the turning point of the Revolutionary war. Burgoyne lost 86% of his troops. Washington forced Burgoyne to surrender 5,895 soldiers.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    Winter at Valley Forge
    Wahington gets there and finds out that the British have took all their supplies. Washington and his men suffer through the winter as aid was slow at responding. He lost nearly a quarter of his men from disease, cold, or lack of food. Some locsl women help them out by bringing ten teams of oxen with carts full of supplies.

    The Battle of Yorktown
    American and French troops bombarded Yorktown with cannon fire turning its buildings to rubble so Cornwallis had no way out and finally surrendered his force of about 8,000.
