  • The Stamp Act

    This law put a tax on all paper products in the colonies. It geatly angered the colonists because it was the first act that taxed them directly.
  • The Townshend Acts

    They were pasted by parlement shortly after the stamp act was repealed. It put a tax on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was an incident that occured outside a tax colectors house. A mob of angry colonists gathered around a groop of solders and started taunting them and throwing things at them. In the end the solders fired into the mob and killed only five people
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act actually lowered the price of tea but the colonists refused to buy it. It eventually led to the Boston Tea Party.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were multiple acts that Great Britain used to punish Boston for the Boston Tea Party. The laws revoked the massachusetts charter, closed the boston harbor, had the trials of the british officers in Britain, and expanded the providence of Quebec.
  • The Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch Petition was a last ditch effort for the colonists to avoid a war with Great Britain and still assert their rights. The Petition was rejected and the war was then bound to happen.
  • Common Sence

    Common Sence
    Common Sence is a pamphlet writen by Thomas Paine. The Pamphlet argues that the colonies had out grown any need for british rule and should be independant. This work was widely distributed and helped get support for the patriots.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    the Battle of Saratoga is considered the turning point of the American Revoltion. The battle ended with the surrender of the british and general John Burgoyne and his entire army was captured
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle of the Americna Revolution. The american and french forces surrounded the british which gave them no choice but to surrender. This battle resulted in a peace treaty that acknowledged the United States as an independent country.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris of 1783 was the the document that ended the war. With in the terms of the document Great Britain then had to acknowledge the United States as an independent nation. Also it set america's borders and let Americans settle and trade west of the original thirteen colonies.
