Mandela is the best known leader of the African Nation Congress. He was arrested and sentenced to life in prison for protesting. -

Mandela was released from prison after a new president was elected. -
Noble Peace Prize
Mandela and de Klerk were awarded the Noble Peace Prize for their hard work in ending the apartheid. -
Open Elections
Nelson Mandela was elected the new president.
