    Italy ended up invading the only remaining uncolonized country Ethiopia.

    Nearly all Africans suffered under colonial rules as their land was taken away from them

    This is when the Africans seriously started to rebel against the colonization.

    The black South Africans weren’t allowed to vote so they had no say in the government

    Nigeria had a fierce struggle to become independent from the British.

    It took many many years for Kenya to come independent.

    The life after they gained their independence wasn’t perfect. They were economically devastated.

    Mandela is the best known leader of the African Nation Congress. He was arrested and sentenced to life in prison for protesting.

    Mandela was released from prison after a new president was elected.
  • Noble Peace Prize

    Mandela and de Klerk were awarded the Noble Peace Prize for their hard work in ending the apartheid.

    Nelson Mandela was elected the new president.
