The No Child Left Behind Act was signed by President Bush in 2002. this act required school to employ better teachers, increase expectations of students, and gave students contact information for the military. Charter schools were formed that are like public schools, but can be funded by private organizations. -

Hurricane Katrina was a category four hurricane that struck the southeastern United States. 1,800 people died during it and nearly 80% of New Orleans went under water. The storm cost $160 billion in damage and the population of New Orleans dropped by almost 20%. -

The Great Recession was a time that there was high unemployment, especially in America. The rich became richer while the poor became poorer. Many people lost their homes and their savings during this time.
