    Four men armed with submachine guns and explosives attacked the Shell Oil Refinery on Pulau Bukom Besar, an island south of mainland Singapore but failed and hijacked Laju,a ferryboat, and held five crew memebers as hostages
  • Offers made to hijackers in the Laju Incident

    Singapore government makes an offer to the hijackers and arranged for an aircraft to take them to Kuwait together with some Japanese officials and that Singapore government officials would accompany them on the flight and guarantee their safety until they arrive in Kuwait. However, they had to surrender their arms to the Singapore officials and release their hostages before boarding the plane.

    First explosion. Less than 500g of plastic explosives had been planted in a 25cm-wide drain running parallel to the sidewall of the building. Because of this wall and the two-storey building next to Faber House, the impact of the blast was directed upwards and not just sideways. No one was injuured.

    Second Explosion. The blast was determined to have originated from a drain near a power substation at the back of Faber House, but investigators did not find evidence of any explosive substance. There was no damage to Faber House. Instead, the nearby Singapore Chinese Girls' School bore the brunt of the impact. The explosion was suspected to be the work of terrorists who were targeting the Israeli embassy, though those responsible have not yet been caught or identified.

    Hijacking of Singapore Airlines Flight SQ  117
    Flight SQ117 departed from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. Four passengers on the flight,armed with explosives and knives,took control of the plane.They claimed to be members of the Pakistan People's Party and issued a list of demands. The next day, a crack team of Singapore Armed Forces Commandos stormed the plane and mounted a swift rescue operation. All four hijackers were shot dead. The hostages were left unharmed
