Technology Use Progression - Jennifer Manning

  • The Apple IPod

    The Apple IPod
This pocket sized music gizmo was first launched by Apple in October of 2001 by none other than Mr. Steve Jobs himself. How ironic that this announcement was made just before Christmas. Who would have thought that every teenager in America would beg for a portable device that could store up to a 1000 of their favorite songs on a 5GB hard drive. In one fell swoop, the IPod replaced that of the CD Walkman and any other type of music player that required a cartridge and AA batteries.
  • Facebook

    Facebook
The idea evolved between six Harvard college students, Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The original idea behind this social media platform was to allow Harvard students on campus to connect with each other using their school email. Eventually, the now CEO, Mark Zuckerberg thought outside the box and by August of 2005, this social media site became a way to connect for everyone and not just college students.
  • Nintendo Wii

    Nintendo Wii
Another invention that snagged the attention of kids across America just before Christmas 2006. Invented by Shigeru Miyamoto, the concept behind this video game console was to bring gaming back to the mainstream masses while providing a more interactive experience other than just using a controller. This brought about the age of a whole body experience that made people get up off the couch and interact with the game in order to play.
  • Smart Phone - Apple

    Smart Phone - Apple
Another pocket sized device launched by the Apple team and their CEO, Steve Jobs, in January of 2007. After observing consumers within the market carrying not only a cell phone, but also the Apple IPod or some other form of an MP3 player. Steve soon began to realize the potential to merge the two technologies into one. Thus began the engineering and invention of the Apple IPhone. The creation of this device was the basis of the hand held computer we use today.
  • Amazon Kindle

    Amazon Kindle
The Kindle was considered the IPod of reading. Instead of music, this device stored a little over 200 books downloaded from the computer using a microUSB cable or the built in cellular data service bundle (not WiFi). This changed the way people read traditional books and soon personal libraries were now housed onto a machine. With each generation, the Kindle became more versatile and compact eventually moving to an App type platform that can now be downloaded to any device today.
