  • Klansman Becomes a Senate

    In 1922 Earl B. Mayfield was elected to be part of the U.S. Senate by the Texans. What most people did not know, is that Earl was a part of the Ku Klux Klan. The Klu Klux Klan gained somewhere between 4 and 5 million followers at its highest point.
  • Television

    In 1927, inventor Philo Farnsworth created the very first electronic television. This invention shaped the way people would watch the news as well as many other things. In today's day and age, we still use these just in a modern form.
  • Hoover Becomes President

    In the 1928 election, Herbert Hoover won. Similar to previous presidents, he won by having significantly more votes in his favor. However, he was elected during a hard time in the world. Soon after he became president, the Great Depression happened and all the stock markets crashed.
  • Great Depression

    In 1929, all the stock markets crashed, everyone was losing money, prices of items dropped, no one invested in companies. Because no one invested in companies, the economy just simply crashed. This crisis was called "The Great Depression".

    World Trade

    Between the years 1929 and 1932, trade between international countries had plummeted from $36 billion all the way down to $12 billion. Our exports fell by 78% as well. This never would have happened had President Hoover not promoted a higher tariff.

    Blockade

    Between 1935 and 1936 during the winter, multiple states including Colorado, California, and Florida created these blockades all along their borders to prevent poor people from coming into the state and "stealing" their jobs.
  • The Grapes of Wrath

    This book called, "The Grapes of Wrath" was turned into a movie, that would achieve great success, about a year after it was published. The book highlighted the depressions dislocated people.
  • Atlantic Charter

    The Atlantic Charter President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill decided upon a certain set of guidelines that would allow them to have postwar peace between each of their countries. This took place in mid-August.
