Technology Progression in the 90s

  • Adobe Photoshop

    The image editing software Adobe Photoshop was invented by brothers Thomas and John Knoll. This app quickly became the number one image editor in the world, and revolutionized the industry.
  • The Linux operating system

    Linus Torvalds finished the open source Linux operating system. This O.S. allowed for a much more flexible experience than other options on the market, due Torvalds' allowing people to edit, repurpose and share modified versions of the software.
  • Nokia 1011

    Nokia released its very first cellphone, the Nokia 1011. Nokia was an extremely popular phone brand at the time of its conception, and has more recently been making a come back in the industry due to its phones' affordability and reliability. Nokia revolutionized the world of cellular devices, with the Nokia 1011 being far more compact than any device before it.
  • Sony Playstation

    The Sony Playstation make big waves in the video game ecosystem. Primarily designed by Ken Kutaragi, the Playstation saw some serious competition from the Nintendo 64, which came out only two years later. Even still, the Playstation did arguably better in terms of sales, and both systems are hailed as being among the greatest, and most revolutionary consoles of all time.
  • The DVD

    The DVD (Digital Video Disc / Digital Versatile Disc) changed the way that video was distributed. Effectively replacing VHS, DVDs are still used to this day as a fairly common method of video storage, though they are slowly but surely fading out as technology continues to advance even further.
