  • Tacillgar Takes His First Steps-ACCOMODATION

What Is Accommodation?Tacillgar demonstrated Accomodation upon learning he could find me quicker and easier by walking and looking for me. Accomodation is where the infant brain changes in their way thinking in response to encounters with new stimuli or events. (Feldman, 2012. P. 143) No longer does Tacillgar call for me to see where I am. Instead he searches for me and laughs as though he has busted my cover. This is important for his problem solving skills by searching for what he seeks.

Reciprocal socialization and family systemsTacillgar shows Reciprocal Socialization skills quickly with teachers and aides at the day care center. Reciprocal Socialization is a process by which infants' behaviors invite further responses from parents and other caregivers. (Feldman, 2012. Psychological Readiness and Motor Skills Needed for Toilet TrainingWe are potty trained! Tacillgar wanted to go to the Rabbit Creek Community Association Pre-School (because they have a fun playground for little ones). The current guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that there is no single time to begin training and training should begin only when children show that they are ready (Feldman, 2012. P. 213)
Tacillgar was told he could not go to pre-school until he was potty trained. He picked out big boy briefs and earned stickers.
  • Cooperative Play - Cul-de-sac kids

Encouraging Cooperative PlayTacillgar shows he is capable of Cooperative Play by happyily socializing with the other children in the cul-de-sac. Cooperative play is that in which children genuinely interact with one another, taking turns, playing games or devising contests (Feldman, 2012. P. 254. The children in the neighborhood range from 8 down to 4 all playing water guns, tag, hide and seek and superheroes. With the younger children encouraged to join in.
  • Social Comparison

Self-Comparison Theory: Upward vs. Downward Social ComparisonTacillgar indirectly indicated that he is socially comparing himself to his peers. Social comparison is the desire to evaluate one's own behavior, abilities, expertise, and opinions by comparing them to thos of others (Feldman, 2012. P. 330) Tacillgar compares himself favorably in some areas to his peers, and unfavorably in others. He is looking forward to middle school and new friends.

Piaget's Definition of Egocentrism in Adolescence: Examples & QuizTacillgar tries SPICE on the suggestion of a peer. Has psychotic response to substance. Tacillgar is exhibiting a state of self-absorption in which the world is viewed from his own point of view. (Feldman, 2012. P. 382) During Tacillgar's adverse physiological response to SPICE he is suspended from school for the rest of the semester. Tacillgar wanted to not seem scared of trying an illegal drug in front of his peers.
  • Identity Diffusion

Identity Status Theory (Marcia)Tacillgar is deeply depressed, still kicking himself over the SPICE episode that got him suspended from school for half a semester. Tacillgar is exhibiting signs of identity diffusion: he considers various identity alterntives but never commits to one or never even considers identity options in any conscious way. Tacillgar, goes to school every day but doesn't bring home any homework to do. Teachers pass him so as to not see him again for the next semester.
