HISTORICAL
The analysis of history goes back to the time when the chancas hardened, persecuted by the Incas make Lamas their new habitat and form an extensive linguistic and cultural family known as: MOTILONES LAMISTAS. It was they, who are in search of food in the valley of Tarapoto, where the warriors and savage CUMBAZAS lived dedicated to hunting and fishing between the Cumbaza River and the Chocino Creek. -
NOWADAYS
It is one of the main tourist and commercial centers of the Peruvian Amazon. It currently has a population of 149,875 inhabitants, being the most populated city in the department of San Martín, the twentieth in Peru and the third largest and most populated Amazonian city after Pucallpa and Iquitos.
