Farmers grew more and more crops despite the conditions of the drought and weather it but them in their own danger. The farmers could not pay their bills/taxes or even repay the money that they borrowed. Farmers also stripped away the natural grasses that held the soil in place. The government passed the Agricultural Adjustment Act which set limits on the size of the crops and herds farmers could produce. Those farmers that agreed to limit production were paid a subsidy. -
Farmers now losing homes???
The massive dust storms caused farmers to lose their livelihoods and their homes. During the Great Depression, a series of droughts combined with non-sustainable agricultural practices led to devastating dust storms, famine, diseases and deaths related to breathing dust. Deflation from the Depression aggravated the plight of Dust Bowl farmers the prices from the crops could have grown but went down because no one could afford anything, because no one could afford anything no one was making money
