  • The start of public high school

    The start of public high school
    Began in Boston in 1635. Had basic subjects like, Math, English and Reading. This help students get a college degree and let the lower income class be able to go to school, this was paid for by taxes. This kicked off the public school system we have today, and it gave everyone the opportunity to a higher education.
  • John Dewey

    John Dewey
    John Dewey was a key to reform schools. He started the child centered school approach. Recognize the changing times, and need for school reform, he went out through out the country to express his views. Taught schools how to teach differences and commonalities among each other, where vocational studies coexist with academic studies and where tolerance and diversity partner with critical mindedness.
  • Cardinal Principle

    Cardinal Principle
    Created by the Compression of Secondary Education, this document helped schools teach life skills and work ethic to kids. Mainly for students who didn't chose to pursue a college education, this gave them the basic skills and choices to have professional careers after high school. I.E. what we know has trade jobs today. This document gave students the opportunity to make a living after high school, which lead to electricians, plumbers and construction workers.

    Brown vs Board of Education
    The ruling of Brown vs Board of education ruled that African American students shall be allowed to go to schools with white children. Every child has a right to go to school, and this law help solidify that. Paving the way for new students to learn, equal rights and to help end segregation. This helped everyone learn about equality and the different cultures we have in america.
  • Children with disabilities PL 94-142

    Children with disabilities PL 94-142
    This new law required that students with disabilities are given the same opportunity in schools as those who are with out. This is very important because it gave an opportunity for everyone no matter what to pursue a education. Even if they do not seek higher education, everyone deserves a chance to go to school, learn, grow and make friends. This also gave an opportunity for non disabled students to learn to live with disables and how to care for each other.
