    Stamp Act
    In 1765 the Stamp Act was passed as a law. The law said that colonists had to pay taxes on printed material. They had to stamp it to make sure they had paid the taxes. The coloists thought it was unfair because they had no say in this. Their protest was "No taxation with out represation."
  • Sons of Liberty

    Sons of Liberty
    Samuel Adams is leading protestants againsts the taxes. This was known a the Sons of Liberty.The Sons of Liberty were started in many towns in 1765. The members burned stamps and threatend stamp agents. In some towns they destroyed agents houses. In Boston they made a puppet of an agent and agents never sold stamps again.

    Thetownshend Acts was about tha Stamp Act not working so the Townshend Acts were taxes on imported goods. The colosts were mad. The people from Georga to New Hampshire were boycotts. they refused to pay taxes on the goods.

    In 1767 the Daghters of Liberty were formed. The Daughters of Liberty were women who made there own needs out of their own stuff. Since the Boycott was hurting the British they sent out war ships and Benjamin Fraklin said this would cause more violence. He was right. The colonsts felt good.

    On March 5, 1770 Edward Garrick was yelling insults at Hugh White who was on duty. He lost his temperand hit Garrick with his musket. People started to surrond him and he called for backup. Colonists started to throw stuff at them. The soldiers fired in the crowd and killed 5 people. The soldiers were put on trial. They were defended by John Adams. They were not charged with murder.

    The parliament took the tax off everything but the tea. They were trying to show the colonsts they had the right to tax the colonsts. Samuel Adams felt that it took to log for the news to arrive in other colonies . So he formed the Commitetees of Correspondence in 1772. It was formed in towns all over. The objective was for express rider to ride on a horse and deliver the letter.

    In 1773 Pariament passed a law called the Tea Act. The law stated that colonists could only buy tea from the East India company and there was still taxes. The colonists did not like the idea. On December 16, 1773 The Sons of Liberty boarded British ships and dumped the tea. This was known as the Boston Tea Party. There cheer was "Rally Mohawks! Bring out your axes an tell king George we'll pay no taxes."
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    In 1774 the Intolerable Acts were laws that said coloists had to feed, clolthe, and house the British soldiers. The new leader of Massachusettes was general Thomas Gage and the seaport closed in Boston. The seaport closing was the worst because Boston relied on trade and jobs were lost. Leaders from12 colonies met in Phladelphia to discuss the Intolerable Acts.
  • The Continental Congress

    On a day in September 1774 repreenitives of every colony but Georgia met in Philadelphia for the first ever Continental Congress. They were discussing the Intolerable Acts. All the colonies agreed to form militia groups. The people hoped to solve this situation peacefully.
